b a r a k a family community experience

in Sardinia May 25th - 31st 2026

A different life.

Have you ever dreamt about a different way of living with your family? Ever fantasized about a piece of land abroad, about living in a community or about travelling permanently?

Join us to learn together with other families from people with lots and lots of real life first hand experience.

Till, Tzegha and their two sons are a German Eritrean family. They lived in different smaller and larger communities in Germany, Switzerland and Sardinia and are now creating a freelearning neighnourhood community in the wild forests of northern Sardinia.

Jolanda and Brecht changed their sports and sustainability careers into a lifestyle. Practicing what they preach. They have spent years travelling as a couple with their kids, the last 2 years permanentely traveling in a 6 meter camper van.

The four of them have now joined forces to make their out-of-the-oridnary lives available to other families. They share their combined experience in moving and starting a new chapter abroad, community building, coaching, permaculture, home schooling - free learning, multicultural relations, peace work, sustainability, trauma therapy, youth care, outdoor instructions, bio based construction and holding space for groups and individuals.

All of this held within a close, personal community setting.

We won`t show you how to lead your life, but rather create a safe space for you in order to learn from eachother and become clearer about your very own family path.

One week in community

Experience living in community for a week.

We will have sharing circles: as families or with only parents. We will be cooking and eating together, singing and dancing, relaxing and being active outdoors. There will be time for activites, time for relaxation and time for reflection. Above all there will also be time for just being and learning from each other.

What it's about

We will bring together a small group of maximum 6 families to be able to dive deeply together. With a combination of activities and reflection methods we will tackle questions like:

  • How can freelearning and homeschooling really work and be an enriching experience for each family member?

  • What does it mean to live abroad or to be permanently traveling?

  • How to move towards a more simple and nature based lifestyle as a family?

  • How can living in a community positively affect the well-being of a family system?

  • How to cope personaly and as a family with a troubled and fast changing world?

Program

We will create a beautiful flow together in our short term community. It is all about the moment and the needs and wishes of each of us.

The program will have formal sessions and times for improvisation. This way we make sure, that your personal dreams and challenges will get the attention they deserve.

With 7 days and only 6 families, each family can count on enough personal space for their most pressing questions and topics, from us as facilitators as well as from the group intelligence.

How might a day look like:

  • Early birds can start with optional pre-breakfast yoga, pilates or meditation from experienced teachers.

  • After a short moning circle we will enjoy breakfast together and have and active or creative morning. Think of hiking, working with clay, acrobatics, rock climbing, work on the land, beach visits.

  • Lunch will be together after which there is unplaned time. Later in the afternoon we slow down and focus on our family topcis with a sharing circle or other exercises.

  • Evenings are open for bonfire, story telling, music and or star gazing.

Venue - baraka community

The event takes place on and around the beautiful land of the Baraka community close to Luogosanto in north-eastern Sardinia. A wild land with bizarre granite rocks and fields in the middle of endless old cork oak forests, overseeing the mountains and the sea until the neighboring island of Corsica. Here we have an outdoor kitchen, outdoor showers and a lot of space to to play and be together or to enjoy the views and silence alone.

Practicals

The seminar costs are an all-inclusive fee of 1850 € per family. Included are the seminar facilitation, food and acommodation.

Food will be high quality and mostly regional and organic vegetarian food. There will be cooked meals for lunch and dinner.

Acomodation is simple, in a caravan or bell-tent (you can also bring your own camper or tent). We have outdoor showers and and compost toilets.

The week will be multilingual as we will be an international group. In our experience, kids get along really well with each other, even if they don't share a language. Nevertheless we will have an eye on the children’s process and support their communication. As soon as we know more about the group we can share ages and languages of participating kids.

As adults will be communicating in English as much as possible, but the the organizing team speaks English, German, Dutch, Italian and French.

about us

Jolanda, Brecht, Dax and Jep

Less stuff - more adVANtures! Jolanda Brecht Dax and Jep changed their house for a small old camper in the summer of 2024 and haven't stopped traveling since. Brecht and Jolanda already liked to travel individually and as a couple. They spent some years in Cambodia and cycled home to the Netherlands. As a family they had some experience of 3 and 6 months in the camper when they decided to leave again, this time with an open end. They travel slowly and have low impact. So far they have seen only small parts of southern Europe, the Balkans and Morocco, but had a huge amount of adventures, campfires, life lessons, and interesting meetings.

The joy in this lifestyle for them is in being together, in being active and being in nature. Either while hiking, rock climbing or doing acrobatics. And off course there is joy in being able to do all this in the time things take. To leave the clock and live in a natural time frame.

Jolanda Zwetsloot Was trained as a social worker and outdoor instructor and always used play and activities as a means to coach people. She has a strong belief that all humans are equal and interconected with eachothe rand nture. Her genuine interest in the people makes for genuine questions, which somehow always make people open up and find their answers Next to the serious part she loves to play. Juggling, acrobatics, mountainbiking, it doesn’t realy matter. Also in play she will find ways to help people reflect. But she will do that anywhere. She can coach you while selling you cheese on the market.

Brecht van der Laan once studied industrial desing but figured out already before he graduated that the world needs less stuff and more adventures. So he used his creative problem solving skills for the good cause. He has a deep love for justice in the broadest sence which drives him in all he does. He spent years working in sustainable energy, researching new energy sources, building the Cambodian solar infrastructure and defending workers rights in the suply chain. Now he lives writing and telling stories about traveling, about the goodness in people, and about how a life with less stuff makes you happier.

Tzegha, Till, Luam and Amit

We are an Eritran-German family with our two boys Luam (11) and Amit (10). Right from our first pregnancy in 2014 we were strongly drawn towards an alternative lifestyle as a family. The windy and beautiful road starts off with home births. When Luam was not even a year old, we made our first community attempt in rural east Germany. Later on, we really wanted to learn and experience more. Live brought us all the way to Switzerland, where we lived for five years in the intentional community of Schloss Glarisegg with 60 people. That was an intense and beautiful learning time on our path. The kids grew and we became clear about wanting to let them learn free, without schools. In 2021 we made the step and moved to Sardinia with the vision to create a neighborhood community with like-minded families. Three years ago we were finally able to buy a beautiful piece of land and lay the first foundations of the baraka community. It's been growing and developing ever since and we are thrilled to invite you here.

Till Henning With his wife`s pregnancy of his first son Luam, his world started to shift and change drastically. After more than twenty years of formal education, the bigger questions about life could not be held back any longer. He dived deeply into new fields of interest and trained himself in community building and living, emotional healing work, unschooling and freelearning and a permaculture oriented lifestyle. He worked as a teacher in several free schools in switzerland with kids of all ages, learning to trust the natural rythms of learning in each child. He closely accompanies his two sons in their unschooling journies, always in mutual learning. The five years spent in an ecovillage at lake constance have given him deep insights about the possibilties and challenges of life in an intentional community. In the last three years since the foundation of Baraka in Sardinia, he is delighted to finanly bring many of the dormant seeds to life, building up an entirely off-grid home for him, his family and all the guests and friends yet to come.

Tzegha Kibrom has a multicultural background and has lived and worked in various countries in conflict. Her professional background is in conflict resolution, mediation, organisational consultancy and personal coaching. She has been working as a freelancer for 15 years. She has a general deep interest for people and their stories and needs and enjoys holding spaces for groups. One of her passions is dealing with collective trauma and healing. Over the years she trained herself in different energetic healing techniques and herbal medicine. She is convinced that humanity is going through a difficult phase and will eventually find its way into balance . She also loves to be in silence in nature and spend time, working with her hands in the earth in the garden and caring for the plants
